Board Meeting Minutes
September 10, 2011
Present: SheldonWettack, Dottie Lyon, Mary Kay Baker, Dennis Dreyer, Steve McKown, John Blair, Joe Milauckus, Jay Hernly, Vince Beckman
Excused: Mike Flynn, Arlene Philp, Pat Woods
Sheldon called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., welcomed Dottie Lyon to our Board and thanked Dennis Dreyer for hosting the meeting.
The minutes from June 4, 2011 were approved as distributed. The minutes from the August 6, 2011 Annual Meeting were approved after correcting minor spelling issues and is to be posted on the website. The Annual Meeting minutes will be formally approved at the 2012 Annual Meeting.
Treasurer’s Report. Sheldon Wettack presented the Arlene Philp’s Treasurer’s Report which was approved unanimously as presented. The cost of the Summer Social was approximately $1,000 less than last year’s event.
Election of Officers. The following slate as unanimously approved:
President – Sheldon Wettack
Vice President – Dennis Dreyer
Treasurer – Dottie Lyon
Secretary – Mary Kay Baker
Dottie will ask Arlene Philp to be the Membership Chair and continue to keep tract of and welcome new members. Arlene has done a wonderful job of meeting people as they move into our area.
Old Business
Membership Survey.
This group has not met yet. Dennis Dreyer will lead this small committee with Jay Hernly and Arlene Philp serving. The committee will come up with the proposed survey and distribute the survey to the entire board via email. Once the board discusses it, the survey will be posted on the website.
POWER and Wind Turbines. Dennis Dreyer and Joe Milaukus. Dennis is keeping abreast of the pros and cons of wind turbines. He is trying to get in touch with the POWER group and will report back at our next Board meeting.
Saugatuck Township Planning Commission. Joe Milaukus. The Planning Commission has passed a wind energy ordinance and is waiting for the Township Board to approve it.
Time Shares. This topic will discussed at our next meeting when Arlene Philp is present.
New Business
Summer Social.
The members discussed several suggestions that came up at the Annual Meeting, including
- having the Summer Social be a cocktail party instead of a dinner or combining the Annual Meeting and the Summer Social.
- Wacky Wednesday. Dottie Lyon shared about the very successful neighborhood socials being held weekly on the south side of the washout.
- It was decided that Mary Kay will chair a small committee including Joe Milaukus, Pat Woods and Dottie Lyon to discuss the many options and then make a recommendation to the Board at the November Board meeting for the formats for both the Summer Social and Annual Meeting.
The judge has the consent decree before him. There are also three different requests for a fairness hearing before the judge.
Saugatuck Township Planning Commission. Joe Milaukus.
The Commission is working on the Medical Marijuana issue and how/where it can be distributed. Marijuana use has been approved by the state for medical reasons, but the federal law still states that it is illegal to grow marijuana.
Saugatuck Harbor Committee. Joe Milaukus.
The committee has hired a consulting firm to help them quickly form a Harbor Committee. Public hearings will need to be set. The entity needs to be in place by the end of the year in order to qualify for possible funding for dredging and to purchase Tower Marina. The Township is not voting – just observing.
International Upper Great Lakes Study. Joe Milaukus.
Douglas did a good job of hosting this meeting. Joe is quite confident that manipulating the St. Clair River will not take place (to increase the water levels in Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.) The study is now focusing on the regulation plan for Lake Superior.
West Shore Golf Course. A developer has purchased the entire property and is selling off individual lots. The house, the club house and the small business across the street have all been sold.
Next Meeting. The next meeting will be held on November 19, 2011 at Dottie Lyon’s house
