SHELDON WETTACK
Letter from the President
Spring 2009
Greetings to the DLSA Membership!
This newsletter is your Board’s way of sharing some of our activities with the entire membership of the Association. We hope that you find it informative. And, maybe by the time you receive it, spring will really be here!!
I must admit that I feel uneasy writing this letter since the past two ”letters from the president” are a hard act to follow. We all know of Fritz Royce’s communication abilities and I’m no Fritz Royce!! I also don’t have a castle in Kalamazoo or a condo in Rio de Janeiro, so he’s ahead on a lot of fronts!!
I do want to remind you, however, that Fritz will have his annual beach party on June 20th, and he wants the entire membership to know that they are invited to come and celebrate the summer season with him.
The Board has had an active year, beginning with Fritz’s presidency last spring and summer and continuing with me taking over this fall and winter. A whole host of matters have had our attention, including several that are described further in this newsletter. The Dennison/McClendon property, the Swingbridge PUD, West Shore Cottages, drainage concerns, Lake Shore repairs and emergency access, have been on nearly every Board agenda and we have also been planning for the summer social and annual meeting. If you have been away this winter, be sure to catch up on any of these items by perusing the newsletter paragraphs contributed by members of the Board. Some matters have moved forward or even been approved, and others await further consideration.
Regarding the summer, we want you to know that the annual Summer Social will be at the Saugatuck Yacht Club on the evening of June 27. Be sure to save that date so that you and your family can have another fun evening with fellow members of DLSA. If you want to see how much fun everyone had last year, be sure to go the DLSA website (www.douglaslakeshoreassociation.com) to view the pictures taken during that evening. To access the “members only” section of the website, use the following logon info: user name: member and password: DLSA618. The password is case sensitive. Plan to attend this year so you can be in a picture for next year’s website collection!!
The Annual Meeting of the membership will be August 8, 2009 at 9 am. While the location is not yet finalized, it will probably be at the Douglas City Hall. Again, plan to share this time with fellow members while also learning more about “our lake” and about the Douglas Lake Shore Association.
In closing, I want to say that it is a real joy to work with the others on the Board, and all of us enjoy that work both because we know we’re working for you and because of this beautiful place we call the Douglas Lake Shore. Our efforts are intended to preserve its qualities while also making it even better than we all know it already is.

Letter from the President
Spring 2008
Greetings Members:
We are in the process of going completely electronic. If you are one of the last few people getting this by snail mail, please take the time now and send an e-mail to Al Lyon at: lyonclan@comcast.net . We want to be able to inform you of important matters as soon as they happen.
Last year I started out my super bowl letter by saying how cold it was 3, with a wind chill of 20. What a difference a year, and even a week makes around here. Today it is 32 degrees. I added thousands of dollars of insulation in my basement: the pink panther fiberglass insulation underneath the floor between the joists and 4 inches of rigid on all the walls. Now it is always warmer in my basement than it is in my house. But, I have ice backing up under the shingles giving me a steady drip in my bedroom. I am off to Lowe’s for heat tape.
Here are important dates to mark on your calendar:
1. June 19, 2008, Thursday, 7-10 p.m., Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance fund raiser: Dancing with the Stars at Fenn Valley Winery.
2. July 19, 2008, Saturday night Summer Social at the Saugatuck Yacht Club
3. July 26, 2008, Saturday, 9:30 a.m., Annual meeting at Douglas City Hall.
Last year, I said that “Many of the DLSA board members and you have been very involved in local issues that could significantly impact the quality of our lives. We seem to be under siege by developers who want to build all around us.” The efforts by so many of you have doubled, not only in time commitment and letter writing, but in money contributions to the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance legal defense fund. Thank you.
I am thrilled to be working with such a great board of motivated and concerned people who are interested in both preserving our community and making it better. Thank you for the opportunity to serve with such a great group!
