At its last meeting your DLSA Board listened to a presentation by Jeff Hoenle who is president of the Lake Michigan P.O.W.E.R. Coalition (Protecting Our Water, Economy and Resources). POWER is working to assure that any wind energy legislation from Lansing take into account the many considerations that arise as wind is harnessed as an alternative energy source on Lake Michigan. We were very impressed with the presentation and with the potential problems that such energy turbines might bring to the shoreline, including our own. We agreed to write a letter supporting POWER’s efforts and wanted you to see that letter (below). You might also want to peruse the web site of POWER, which is at www.protectwithpower.org/. Their work on this issue is being carried out with volunteers, but they have engaged several professional organizations to help with the effort. As such, they are in need of financial support and many of you may wish to make donations to the Coalition. Given the potential ramifications of this alternative energy source, we believe that such donations are highly justified.
