Great news! The City of Saugatuck and the Land Conservancy of West Michigan announced this past Tuesday that the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area project will be completed this year!

The final two-thirds of the property will transfer from the Land Conservancy of West Michigan to the City of Saugatuck in 2011, ahead of the originally scheduled date of December 2012.  $150,000 remains to be raised from the public by Labor Day for the project to finish successfully. Originally estimated as a $22.1 million project, the remaining $150,000 assures adequate funds for the purchase the property, permanent public access, and an endowment for long-term upkeep.

Included in this announcement was the unveiling of a fundraising thermometer near the information booth in downtown Saugatuck, which is pictured on the right.

We ask you to please consider making a gift to the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area to guarantee the protection of these 171 acres forever.Donate by credit card online or mail your contribution to the Land Conservancy at 1345 Monroe Ave. NW, Suite 324, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
