MINUTES OF THE DOUGLAS LAKE SHORE
ASSOCIATION BOARD MEETING
OF 6/5/10
Present: SheldonWettack, Al Lyon, Mary Kay Baker, Pat Woods, Steve McKown, John Blair, Arlene Philp, Dennis Dreyer, Jay Hernly Excused: Vince Beckman, Joe Milauckus, Mike Flynn Guest: Andy Murch, Lake Michigan Shore Association Sheldon called the meeting to order at 9:20 a.m. and thanked Al Lyon for hosting the meeting. The minutes from April 17, 2010 were approved as distributed. Treasurer’s Report. Arlene presented the Treasurer’s report which was approved unanimously as distributed. - We have 142 members – 13 have not yet paid, but have received reminder notices. About half the members paid via PayPal.
- Twenty additional signs were ordered and eight have been sold.
- It cost approximately $1/each to publish and mail the newsletter and around $3/each for the Directory.
Old Business Website. Jay Hernly reported that he would like to train at least one other Board member to update the website. Membership Survey Regarding Rentals Committee. Al, Dennis and Arlene. No update at this time. New Business Summer Social. Pat, Jay, Al and John. The Social will be held at the Saugatuck Yacht Club on Saturday July 17, 2010 - 180 invitations will be printed and mailed. Mary Kay, Arlene, John, Al and Pat will process the mailing on June 30th at 1:00 p.m. at Pat’s cottage. An email notice about the Social will be sent in late June and the invitations will be mailed on July 1st.
- Jay will ask Craig Hitchcock to organize parking attendants. Erin will photograph the event. Al will help put up signs.
- The auction will benefit Christian Neighbors. Donations are still needed for the auction. Please bring items to Al’s porch the week of the event.
- Donations: Mike will contact the Ravines. Sheldon will contact Sherwood Forest and Pat will contact Scott from Center Stage and Scooters. There will be 4 to 5 items for the live auction. Please call Pat if you can think of a business to contact for donations.
- The Board was urged to make a special effort to welcome new members who will have a star on their nametag.
Annual Meeting. Steve McKown, Dennis Dreyer, John Blair and Vince Beckman. The Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday August 5, 2010 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The Saugatuck Brewing Company charges a rental fee, so Steve will call the City of Douglas. The Olde School House and the Lake Shore Chapel were suggested as alternative meeting locations. - Dennis has sent an email to Bob Genetski about attending. Other suggested topics are: a windmill update, a harbor update, rentals, uncapping the Homestead taxes. The committee will contact Travis Randolph to report on the efforts to consolidate the tri-communities.
- A meeting notice will be sent via email in mid-July along with the agenda.
- Mary Kay and Jay will look into having a Junior Membership as a way to encourage younger members to get involved in the Association.
- Andy reported that the Lake Michigan Shore Association is now holding a weekly social hour – rotating to various homes as a way to help the neighbors get to know each other better.
Nominating Committee. Joe, Steve and Jay. No report at this time. Website Postings. Sheldon. The following motion was made and approved unanimously: The President and Board Webmaster will decide if an item shall be posted on the website. If there is a question, they will consult the Executive Committee. Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance. Sheldon. The suit against the Township is in Federal Court. The judge has encouraged the two parties to work it out and also encouraged McClendon to share his plans for the North Dennison Property with the Township. Saugatuck Township Election Recount. Steve. Yesterday afternoon there was a lawsuit filed by one of the people who requested the recount asking to have the election set aside. There is a provision in the state law that in the event of voting fraud they can file a lawsuit. Saugatuck Harbor Committee. No report at this time. Saugatuck Township Planning Commission. Steve. The Commission is looking at re-adopting the R-4 zoning. McClendon has charged that it was inappropriately adopted originally. This issue has been tabled indefinitely on recommendation due to the federal lawsuit. International Upper Great Lakes Study. No report at this time. Announcements: July 24th, 10:00 a.m., Glenn Community Center. David Fry will be discussing cottage planning. Board members are welcome to attend. Next Meeting. August 5th – Annual Meeting.
