The purpose of the Douglas Lake Shore Association is to cooperate with individuals, groups and with units of government in evolving private and public approaches and solutions to the common local problems and needs of the owners of property near Lake Michigan in or near the community of Douglas.

Trustee Steve McKowen (Attorney) will discuss issues of interest to lakeshore property
owners concerning Michigan Real Estate Taxation Laws”, the format will be along the
following lines:
a. Review of real estate tax structure in Michigan – SEVs, taxable values,
tax classifications, effects of transfer of ownership, principal residence
(homestead) exemption;
b. How the transfer of ownership of real estate results in the “uncapping” of
taxable values following the transfer: Can it be avoided or limited
through planning?
State Representative Bob Genetski will discuss Windmill legislation, including their use
along the shores of Lake Michigan. He will also field questions from members and the
general public.
